What is a Media Kit?
This area contains press kits and digital photographs which media
representatives may download for publication. Media Kits contain MS Word
versions of press releases and accompanying materials and digital images in TIFF/JPG format. Each Media Kit is compressed into a single
ZIP file containing the text files and images. The size of the zipped file
is listed with its name in the list of available kits. When you chose to
download the file, your browser will copy the Media Kit to your system. The
length of time required to download will depend on the capacity of your
phone lines and the speed of your modem. If your situation is typical,
expect a download period of at least ten minutes for the typical kit.
Please use the appropriate caption information when reproducing images
(listed in file "captions"). We request that publishers honor the artists'
intentions and refrain from undue cropping or other manipulation of the
works of art reproduced in these Media Kits.
Permission
Please note these museum policies which also must be strictly followed: Permission is for one-time use only. In the reproduction process, the work
illustrated may not be cropped, over-printed with type, printed on color
stock, or altered in any way without prior written approval from the museum.
The use of a detailed section of a work must have prior approval from the
museum; the fact that it is a detail must be noted in the credit. All published images must be credited appropriately
Image Specifications
The resolution of the imagery is 300 pixels per inch at 8 x 10 inches
(usually no more than 1 megabyte each for most black-and-white photographs
after cropping to actual image dimensions), adequate for most purposes for 8
x 10 halftone reproduction at 100 to 133 dpi. Color images are made available as well. They are usually 3 to 4 megabytes each. Minimum and
maximum densities are always pre-specified for a 5% highlight dot and 95%
shadow dot. If your printer requires other values, image density must be adjusted accordingly.
